Typeface Created to Help Dyslexics Read
A Dutch designer has created a typeface that makes it easier for dyslexics (like himself) to read.
The “Dyslexie” font is “[d]esigned to make reading clearer and more enjoyable for dyslexics, us[ing] heavy base lines, alternating stick and tail lengths, larger openings, and semicursive slants to ensure that each character has a unique and more easily recognizable form.”
Christian Boer originally designed the font as part of his thesis, but has now made the typeface available for free download.
“Once installed, dyslexic readers can use the font to type, print documents, read email, or browse the Web. […] Boer says that independent studies from the University of Twente and the University of Amsterdam back up his claims that Dyslexie helps both children and adults with dyslexia to read faster and with fewer errors.”
