Thank you for your comment.

We have some great tips that your son and his teacher can try implementing in the classroom.

Check out our downloadable PDF on our ADHD page

Additionally, if you need further ideas, visit your local centre. They can perform an academic assessment for you can create a program that will help teach learning skills that might help you avoid the need to medicate your son.

I hope that helps.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me directly

Hi,
I don't know where to start. My son is 11 years old, and since grade R teachers tell me that my son is very bright but has a concentration problem and that he could do much better. Since grade 3 things got very bad. He is a very good boy, he even told me that he has been trying hard to pay attention, but he is struggling with that, he takes longs to do everything, even to eat. The teacher just told me now that he needs to take some medications, what I don't feel right to give to him, I am really worry about, I am not even sleeping properly because of that. I didn't want to give him some medication. I really would like some advise on that.

I find this article very relevant! It does feel good to check things off of my to-do list and I sometimes rationalize finishing the "easier" tasks first even though they are not top priority.

One think I try to do to limit distractions while I'm working it to make sure I don't have my phone with-in arm's reach. If I have to stand up and get it, it makes me think twice before answering that email or text.

When I was in school I had home work and some of it was very legitimate and
helpful. If the class was going to discuss chapters the teacher didn't sit
there while we read, we read it for homework.
I spent many nights memorizing vocabulary, practicing math, and all of that
was helpful.
That being said 10 minutes and night per grade leaves a 12th grader with
2 hrs of homework every night. Add to that most high schools have a different
teacher for each class, many teachers do not communicate with each other, and
don't factor in the time spent on long term project into the 10 minutes
and the student ends up with 4 hrs.

In college I was told to spend 3 hours out of class for every hour in class.
I wondered more tha once if the educators that trotted out thatline FAILED math!
Even if this was not applied to elective classes most college students have
minmum 4 core classes english, math, science, history. Many have more, but
best case scenario - 4 classes at 3 credit hours a week each,
That is 9 hours of homework each week for each class. 9 hrs a week x 4 classes
is 36 hrs. A student could study 5 hours 7 nights a week and still not get in
the 3 hours for every one in class. And taking 4 core classes a semester the
student will be in college for 6+ years!

It depends upon how the student uses the source. Nothing in the world exist with only a Positive remark or a Negative remark. If he only uses it for entertainment purpose, then it will only help him in wasting time. But, at the same time if he uses it to gain some knowledge then it will be a better use of it. Everything has a Limit,One should not cross it. Anything in excess is a bad thing. Peace ^_^
