No More Homework !?!
Has homework reached critical mass in Toronto?
Families across the greater Toronto Area will be on the edge of their seats in the upcoming weeks as they wait to hear whether or not Toronto District School Board trustees will make the groundbreaking decision to ban or restrict homework.
The fact that homework could be on the legislative chopping block at all is not that much of a surprise. Homework has been a thorn in the collective sides of parents for some time now as the sheer amount of homework that children face each night has been wrecking havoc in otherwise happy households.
Kids are stressed by the volume of homework they face every night, and parents aren’t too happy about it either.
Homework amounts seem to increase in direct relation to teacher cutbacks and classroom sizes. School boards are expected to do more with fewer resources and classroom sizes are rapidly expanding giving teachers less time to teach materials during class, which means that in order to meet grade standards, more and more homework is assigned to the student. Unable to teach the curriculum in class, teachers send it home as homework. Now legislators want to eliminate homework entirely.
Something’s gotta give.
No single set amount of time for homework will work either because kids still need some measure of individualized attention. They still need to learn how to prioritize tasks, how to be organized, and how to make sense of the work that they’ve been assigned.

i hate homework so much that i just lie to every and say i done my homework or the teacher never gave me homework

I’m a ninth grader atm with a 3.5 gpa and i certainly think homework sux. I just find it funny how some of the people posting on this site saying that their like in grade school saying they like homework. Just more parents saying they are kids trying to make us actual kids look bad. Shut up no kids like homework.

Homework its just a big unnessasary repeat. Students love doing work when they want to, not when their forced to. I failed Algebra b/c i didnt do my homework, but i still got the work. we dont need homework. its unnesasary and just causes stress to the young children.

wat r peopple on about no homework. Im a year 7 I hav tons and tons of hmwork but its only benefitting me isnt it. Sure i get stressed because of the time since I do other activities after skwl but if we get stressed out rite now, wat wil hapen 2 us in uni and work?? I think hmwork is impotant but a slite reduction could be made
i don’t think helping your kids with homework is necessarily quality time. TOO MUCH homework is a nuisance and completely unnecessary. also, why should kids and parents have to bear the burden of snow days/games/cutbacks etc? what’s the board of education’s role if the only solution to the above problems is allowing teachers to hand out more homework?

I think students shouldn’t get homework. As a highschool student myself I know how much work we get DURING school and when we get home the pressure and stress of more homework. I know all the teachers say that homework shouldn’t take more than 2 hours tops or whatever but that is never the case,it usually takes at least 2 hours per subject on top of that we get essays and projects. All this homework is sucking up our valued childhood. Yeaah i know, education is our future,but what kind of future would we have if all the children are stressed and don’t have time to spend with friends and sometimes even family. I know from experience, how many times i had to miss out on family outings because i had to finish up some homework. JUST WATCH! ALL THE STUDENTS IN THE WORLD WILL BECOME SUPER SMART FROM ALL THIS HOMEWORK AND START BUILDING EVIL ROBOTS THAT WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING IN ITS PATH. THEN YOU WILL SEE WHAT A MENACE HOMEWORK IS! muahahahahahahhahahahahahaha.

i know how u guys feel i dont live where you guys live but i know whaT your going through my school is having the same problem in lorain we get massive homework here and it is just wrong we are really really stressed all the time and i fell like my head is going to exsplode.

Ok so im in 7th grade and they give out a pretty stressing amount of homework and i dont think hw is really that nessesary especially since we already spend around 8 hours of school doing classwork and learning. Us kids want to come home and rest or play with friends basically call it a day from school, not come home and doing more work which is like adults coming home from work and doing even more work. A bit stressing dont you think? Students need to socialize and live their life, not staying up late finishing up their homework. I honestly think homework should be banned. :\ (i just came here to get some points for my persuasive essay and i guess it’s helping
