Learning is about knowing, really understanding, how to integrate and retain new information. About the Position and Program: Our Little Readers Program® is an enriched half-day learning and reading program for children aged 3-5, that develops the skills needed to learn and excel -- including reading, writing. Little Readers® teachers use our own materials to teach students beginning language skills in phonics (letter recognition, sounds, blends, etc.), emergent reading (applying sound knowledge, word families, sight words, etc.) and writing skills (applying sounds to word formation, sentence structure, etc.). Qualifications:
    • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in groups (3-5 years of age) in an education setting is MANDATORY (not a daycare setting)
    • Experience teaching phonics and other early reading programs in a group setting
    • Education with a focus on primary grades or other equivalent credentials
    • Strong communication skills, written and oral
    • Fluency in English is a must as you are administering an English phonics program
    • Strong decision making, planning, organizing skills
    • A team player who enjoys working with others
    • Experience working with ESL preschool aged children is a must
    • Able to multi-task, and working with multiple children in a learning environment
    • Be able to create fun activities that encourages reading
    • French is a asset

    compensation: $18/hr Permanent part-time Oxford Learning Centre - Kerrisdale is currently looking for an upbeat and dynamic teacher who wants to work in a rewarding teaching environment. This position will continue in the fall and during the school year. Our programs offer individual support to students looking to improve their academic skills in reading and writing in English (oral and written). We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who enjoys working with students (Gr. 1-7) to provide phonics instruction for reading and writing to our younger students and coach students in higher grades to produce superior reading, writing and editing skills needed for high school success. We provide all educational resources and in-depth training. Candidates must possess impeccable spoken and written English and must be comfortable teaching students from grades 1-12. Qualified candidates for this position will possess the following skills:
    • Minimum university degree. BC teaching certificate preferred.
    • Experience in a teaching/tutoring environment.
    • Superb written and oral communication skills in English; fluency in French an asset.
    Teaching Requirements:
    • Dynamic, energetic and outgoing personality.
    • Highly organized and able to multitask.
